The United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, says due to heavy rains in Sudan’s Khartoum, nearly 17,000 South Sudanese are in dire need of humanitarian aid.

In its humanitarian update on Tuesday, UNHCR indicated that the decision by Khartoum government to relocate the refugees to a new camp was not timely, saying the refugees lack proper shelter, hygiene among other needs.

The statement also called for a quick joint coordination between the agency and the Sudanese Humanitarian Commission to evaluate the current situation of the refugees including anticipating the numbers to rise.

Some refugees earlier told Radio Tamazuj that their situation is bad due to the heavy rains because they lack latrines and other basic services.
