A radio station managed by the Catholic Church in South Sudan’s Western Equatoria region has been looted by ‘unknown people’ putting the station into difficulty.
Fr Elario Zambakari, the Director of Anisa FM, said that three motorcycles, a flat screen TV, and laptop computers were taken by unknown people.
He pointed out that the radio has been a reliable source for “prayers and news” for the three successor states of Gbudwe, Maridi and Amadi, which replaced Western Equatoria per a presidential decree last year.
“This looting will affect the radio very much at this time of economic crises in the country,” he said.
Anisa FM is part of the Catholic Radio Network, which coordinates and supports a network of FM broadcasters under the various dioceses in Yei, Wau, Tonj, Torit, Rumbek and Gidel in the Nuba Mountains.
Voice of Love radio in Malakal, also belonging to the Catholic Radio Network, has been off-air for more than a year owing to conflict in Upper Nile State.
