The Chief Executive Officer of Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM Tijwog Agwet has appeared at Jonglei State police station together with his Station Manager Jacob Achiek following a warrant of arrest issued against them on Thursday.
The arrest warrant against Mr Agwet followed a verbal termination of the contracts of five staff working for the Bor-based radio station.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Agol Samuel, a former staff at the station said: “We obtained a warrant of arrest yesterday (Thursday) against Tigwog Agwet, the Radio Jonglei Chief Executive Officer and we couldn’t find him, but on Friday morning we found him,” Samuel claimed.
For his part, the Station Manager of the Jonglei Radio Jacob Achiek confirmed that the CEO Tigwog Agwet and himself reported themselves to the police authorities after receiving the warrant of arrest on Thursday.
“It was yesterday (Thursday) when one of our former staff came with three policemen carrying a warrant of arrest written to the CEO Tigwog Agwet and myself Jacob Achiek, the station manager,” he said.
Mr Achiek stated that investigations are still ongoing regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, the police Spokesperson in the state Major Daniel Majak Tuor has denied the arrest of Mr Tigwok, saying the case opened against the CEO by his employees was an administrative issue related to payment.
Major Majak confirmed that several complaints have been reported to the police by employees of Radio Jonglei in the recent past over alleged “mistreatment and underpayment.”
