Puok Both Baluang, the SPLM-IO Director for Information and Public Relations told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that his leader Riek Machar received an invitation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development to attend the meeting.

He said the consultative meeting is meant for the leadership of the parties to the revitalized peace agreement.

“According to the letter, the consultation meeting is aimed at evaluating and assessing the status of implementation of the R-ARCSS, and deliberate on the way forward with regard to outstanding critical pre-transitional tasks,” he said.

Baluang said he is optimistic the meeting will achieve consensus on pending tasks in the agreement aimed at achieving sustainable peace in the country.

The government has remained adamant that it will form a unity government as scheduled despite calls by the opposition to extend the pre-transitional period to allow the implementation of key tasks.
