More than 300 primary school pupils who recently returned from the bushes around Morobo villages in Yei River State and camps in Congo and Uganda are lacking scholastic materials and teachers.
Joice Adiye, a teacher at Morobo Primary school told Radio Tamazuj that both teachers and pupils lack teaching aids and learning material respectively.
“The demand for education here is of great importance, we have 300 children who are ready to learn. We are facing a lot of challenges for instance teaching materials like books, chalk, teachers teaching guide, our schools have been destroyed because of the war and we don’t have trained teachers here,” she lamented.
Adiye also said that due to the shortage of teachers they are relying on form four leavers and other senior school drop-outs who volunteer to teach pupils. She further noted that many schools were destroyed during the conflict, forcing them to temporarily use a church building within Morobo town.
“I am calling on the NGOs like UNICEF and others to support these children with learning aid and motivation for the teachers with chalk so that they can deliver lessons to the children,” Adiye added.
The primary school teacher also appealed to the warring parties in the country to stop war and give peace a chance so that the young generation can be transformed through education.
