The government of Jonglei state has informed it citizens to suspend public transport on the main road between Juba and Bor until security returns to normal, a local official said.

The decision comes after at least 30 people had been killed in Friday’s attacks along the Juba-Bor road. Reportedly, a Land Cruiser vehicle and a passenger bus heading to Bor town were attacked by unknown gunmen in Sudan-Safari area of Terekeka State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Jonglei’s information minister, Jacob Akech Dengdit, said the state government does not want another tragic incident to happen like what occurred along the Juba-Bor road over the weekend.

The minister revealed that the state government and national government are working on the issue to resolve it so passengers can resume their movement normally.

He warned local residents of Bor against putting their lives at risk by travelling to Juba city without security escorts. Dengdit pointed out that his state government has been in commutation with Terekeka authorities to make sure the perpetrators are held accountable.

On April 7, the two states suspended public transport along the Juba-Bor road following frequents car ambushes that led to loss of lives. But the public transports resumed operations a week after the security situation returned to normal.
