Dozens of people in Wau town in Western Bahr al Ghazal State took to the street on Tuesday to protest against the latest presidential decree annexing Raja County to Aweil North and Aweil West to be become Lol State.

Organizers of the peaceful protests marched from Al-Salam Square to the state secretariat where they submitted a petition to State Governor Rizig Zachariah Hassan demanding a new state separate from Lol.

The protests came after tribal chiefs in Raja County met and decided to reject the Establishment Order issued by President Salva Kiir annexing their county to Aweil West and Aweil North counties.

The state governor recently expressed reservations on the order dividing South Sudan into 28 states.
