Dozens of citizens in Sennar town took to the streets yesterday in protest of a resolution that allowed the sale of government lands including the premises of Al-Jadid Girls’ Secondary School.
Protestors told Radio Tamazuj from Sennar that they fear their neighbourhood will be turned into a market by the government authorities after the decision to allow the establishment of 40 stores inside the premises of the school. Citizens from Hai Al Mazad and Hai Al Suk in particular rejected the resolution.
The state government says that the sale of these lands will bring more income and benefits to the state government instead of leaving such areas open.
However, the Sennar State Legislative Assembly had formed a committee to inspect the school and submit a report to the assembly based on a proposal by the MP Jamal Musa. The assembly will summon the state minister for planning and physical infrastructures for a hearing on the matter.
