Prominent lawyer says SPLM-North rift affects peace efforts in Sudan

Prominent Sudanese lawyer Nabil Adib said the recent rift within the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-North) is negatively affecting peace affords.

Prominent Sudanese lawyer Nabil Adib said the recent rift within the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-North) is negatively affecting peace affords.

The SPLM-North rebel group has been fighting against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since 2011.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Nabil called upon the two SPLM-North factions to reunite in order to resume serious peace negotiations with the Khartoum government.

 Nabil further said the history of armed struggle in Sudan indicates that the first rebel groups also known as the Anyanya rebellion in 1970s reached a peace deal after all forces reunited their ranks.

He explained that the 2005 peace agreement was also signed after the SPLM movement reunited all its fragmented factions.

The prominent lawyer called on different factions of the SPLM-North group to learn from the past and reunite its groups to achieve peace in Sudan.
