Dr Leonzio Angole Onek, Dean of the Applied and Industrial Science at University of Juba, is free from National Security Service prison after over four months in jail.
Prof Onek was arrested in Juba on 7 December of last year and held at NSS headquarters in Juba. He was released on Monday of this week.
Onek said the NSS released him due to deterioration of his health. The professor noted that his captors had discussed with him some accusations. However, Onek was never formally charged.
Onek said he was held in the same room as former Western Equatoria governor Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro. Bakosoro went free yesterday.
There were over 35 political prisoners held in South Sudan, according to Amnesty International.
