The Catholic Diocese of Torit has formed a committee to investigate why journalists working for Radio Emmanuel 89 FM went on strike.
The committee was formed on March 4.
Bishop Stephen Ameyu, the Bishop of Torit Diocese, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that a six-member committee had been set up to investigate the causes of the recent strike. He noted that the investigation committee is headed by Fr. John Sabit.
He said the investigation committee summoned the station manager to shed light on what happened, adding that the probe team would also consider demands of journalists at the Catholic-owned station.
“The committee is now investigating to find out the reasons behind the strike,” said Ameyo.
The bishop pointed out that the committee would review the contracts signed by journalists and look into the cause of the strike.
Last month, staff at the station in Eastern Equatoria State staged an open-ended strike in protest over low salaries.
Located 3 kilometers south of Torit town, Radio Emmanuel is a community based radio, established to enable communities access information on critical issues, and create a platform for development, peace as well as reconciliation.
