The Northern Bahr al Ghazal State Legislative Assembly has reportedly formed an investigation committee into projects run by former Caretaker Governor Kuel Aguer Kuel.

Chairman of the information committee in the state parliament Achak Thiep Thiep told Radio Tamazuj that parliamentary committee will investigate an alleged 3 million dollar purchase of 24 vehicles, as well as other procedural matters.

In February, the state government spokesman said: “We have received these cars in the terms of 3 million US dollars.” If true, that means the average contract price per vehicle was $120,000, significantly higher than the market price for such vehicles.

According to an MP in the state parliament, the delivery consisted of 10 RAV-4 vehicles, 14 Toyota 5-doors and one V-8 vehicle.

Dismissed governor

Separately, several local citizens interviewed by Radio Tamazuj in Aweil town criticized the dismissal of the former caretaker governor. Kuel was sacked by

President Kiir after a lengthy power struggle with the previous governor Paul Malong Awan, who is now Kiir’s Chief of General Staff for the army.

The citizens told Radio Tamazuj that they support Kuel, saying he had been able to provide services during his time in office compared to his predecessor Malong.
