Probe into Dinka Ngok chief’s killing starts in Abyei

The commissioned investigation committee to investigate the killing of Ngok Dinka Paramount Chief, Sultan Kuol Deng Kuol and the 12 members of the Misseriya tribe has commenced in Abyei under the auspices of the United Nations Interim Security Forces in the region of Abyei (UNISFA).

The Committee consists of representatives from the Ministry of Justice and the armed forces in addition to the security and intelligence services and the police, all from Sudan.

Justice Mohamed Farid, a senior advisor at the Ministry of Justice said the committee has started investigations on the matter by visiting the crash site to gain preliminary information from eyewitnesses, followed by a visit to the hospital, where the dead and wounded were taken, as well as to obtain medical documents,

Justice Farid explained that the Committee will meet officials familiar the incident as well as from the police and security.

He noted that the Committee is working to complete the inquiry procedure to get to the causes and circumstances of the incident, how it occurred and to determine those involved.

Diffra area located in the northern part of Abyei is considered a temporarily headquarters for the Committee, which will later be moved to Abyei under the auspices of the United Nations forces (UNIFA).

Farid added that the first phase of the investigation will only include the members of the Misseriya tribe while members of Dinka Ngok will be investigated later.

The Committee disclosed that the process is in full coordination with UN forces (UNISFA), being addressed through the Chairman of the Abyei oversight committee of Sudan Al-Khair Al-Fahim.
