A senior military officer allied to South Sudan’s first vice president, General Taban Deng Gai was last Saturday killed in Southern Liech State, an official said.

Joseph Nyuon, the state information minister, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that Brigadier General Pey Gai was killed when forces loyal to Taban Deng clashed in Thaker area near Leer town.

It was not immediately clear as to what sparked off the clashes.

Meanwhile, Nyuon dismissed as “baseless” Tonj State governor’s claims that a group from Southern Liech State killed eight people and injured eight others during last week’s cattle raids in Tonj State.

He said no one from his state raided cattle in neighboring Tonj state.
