Prisoners face disease and starvation at a secret SPLA detention facility in Juba, according to a source who works at the location. The underground prison is run by the military police.

The source said that several people including civilians risk death due to hunger and poor hygiene in the detention site. He said that an unidentified disease has already affected eight prisoners, damaging their sexual organs.

In addition, the source disclosed that some of the prisoners have spent two years without being charged in a court of law. “They [prisoners] are thrown there and forgotten,” the source regretted.

“This is inhumane treatment, they should be transferred to Juba Prison or charged.”

He also said that the entrance to the detention area is marked ‘Store’ in order to deceive agencies seeking to provide health care for prisoners.
