Prison warder commits suicide in Wau

A South Sudan Prison Service warder identified Sergeant Deng Kuol, 30, on Friday committed suicide while on duty in Wau town in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

A South Sudan Prison Service warder identified Sergeant Deng Kuol, 30, on Friday committed suicide while on duty in Wau town in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

According to the state’s acting commissioner of police, Major General James Simon Yasi, the officer who was the driver of the acting director of the prison service in the state, took his own life while his boss was attending a workshop at Rose Hotel.

He said according to investigations after the incident, Kuol have no mental issues but complained of a health condition for some time and that might be the reason he committed suicide.

“What happened on Friday is that the driver of the acting director of the prison service committed suicide by a gun when they were at Rose Hotel attending a workshop on the rule of law,” Gen. Yasi said. “He was sick for a long time but he did not secure money for treatment and that is why he killed himself. Unfortunately, he killed himself when they were on an official mission attending a workshop at the Rose Hotel. As police, we have opened a case and conducted investigations to find out the reason for this crime so we will take the file directly to the prosecutor to forward to the judge.”

“He was a very good driver and according to preliminary investigations did not have a mental problem,” he added.

According to the police, the deceased was alone in the car when he shot himself through the mouth and died on the spot.
