A prison officer in Pochalla County in South Sudan’s Boma State was shot dead by a group of armed men on Tuesday, the deputy coordinator of Boma State in Juba Agade Obang said.
Eyewitness John Oboko, who is a primary school teacher in Pochalla, told Radio Tamazuj that the late officer identified as 1st Lt. Apal Oman from the South Sudan Prison Service was returning home from Bwong an area located in the northern part of Pochalla when he was ambushed and killed on Tuesday evening.
Oboko added that the officer’s gun was stolen by the attackers whom he suspects to be cattle raiders from Pibor.
According to state authorities, this is the third incident in less than a month in Pochalla County.
