A police prison officer was on Sunday killed by gunmen in Duk Pagak County of Jonglei State, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Duk County Commissioner James Yien Jal said First Lieutenant Jok Chok Achuil was killed when suspected cattle raiders attacked his home.
“Those raiders attacked the home of the officer with the intention to steal cows,” Yien said.
The local official further said hundreds of cattle were recovered from the raiders after clashes. He added that the assailants were pursued by county youths, leading to the recovery of the cattle.
Yien claimed the attackers headed toward Fangak State.
