Officials in South Sudan's Lakes State say the prime suspect in the murder case of a young man who was stabbed to death was arrested over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, Dut Kook Mathiang Abol from the Joth section was stabbed to death in Cuei-cok of Mayom Payam in Rumbek Central County.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the caretaker minister of information and communication in Lakes State William Koji Kirjok said that the police in the area have immediately arrested the prime suspect who stabbed the person to death with a knife.
"Some youth had gone to the water point and then they started to joke with a girl and then they started to beat her on the head with wooden sticks. The girl was with her brother. He asked why they were beating his sister and that led to clashes and one of the boys stabbed the girl's brother to death with a knife," he explained.
Koji said the police intervened and apprehended the main suspect on Sunday.
“Only one suspect has been apprehended but police are following the rest who were together with the suspect…..the important point here is that the real suspect who stabbed a person to death with a knife has been arrested for investigations," he added.
The deputy executive director of Rumbek Central County, William Machar Chol said the suspect was identified as Chol Deng Muor-gaheri from the Akook section of Mayom Payam of Rumbek Central County.
“It was just a small incident that took place. The situation is normal and it is under the control of the police," he assured.
He further revealed that two chiefs have also been arrested in connection with the incident.
