Primary School burns down in Aweil East

Fire has consumed all classrooms of the Malieth Alek Yai primary school in Aweil East on Wednesday, according to head teacher Peter Piol.

Fire has consumed all classrooms of the Malieth Alek Yai primary school in Aweil East on Wednesday, according to head teacher Peter Piol.

He was quoted by a local radio station saying that the fire started when people were burning expired plumpy nut. “So everything at the school got burnt and the school was closed,” he said.

The Aweil East education office says they will offer assistance to the school. Director of Education Lual Aleu announced that they will send school textbooks, blackboards and chalks. He appeals to parents and teachers to resume teaching under the trees.
