Over 41,000 candidates today started sitting this year’s South Sudan Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) with three states exempted due to insecurity.

South Sudan’s Minister of Education, Deng Deng Hoc, said in a press statement that the candidates sat in 1,054 examination centres in the states including Abyei.

He pointed out that the ministry was planning to send examination papers to all states, but due to insecurity, Latjor, Fashoda and Maiwut states could not be reached.

For his part, Dominic Deng, Director General for Abyei’s Ministry of Education, confirmed that 720 candidates started sitting this year’s exams in three centres in the Abyei region.

The state official didn’t say whether the total number of boys and girls who sat for their PLE this year is higher or not.
