The chamber of commerce in South Sudan’s Aweil State said that prices of consumer goods are rising at the market.
Malong Deng Nyuany, chairperson of the state chamber of commerce, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the market in Aweil town was witnessing an acute shortage of essential commodities.
He pointed out that prices of consumer goods have risen dramatically in the state since anti-government protests erupted in neighboring Sudan in December 2018.
Malong added that the people of Aweil town depend on goods that are brought by business people from neighboring Sudan.
He explained that the price of a 50 kg sack of sugar increased from 9,000 to 10,000 SSP, while the price of a kg sack of flour costs 12,000 SSP.
“The price of a malwa of sorghum has increased from 300 SSP to 400 SSP,” he said.
The official warned that the situation will deteriorate further in the state if the signed peace agreement is not implemented fully.
