Prices of essential commodities have shot up at the market in Renk town in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state, locals said.

Prices of essential commodities have shot up at the market in Renk town in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state, locals said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, several residents decried the rise in prices after recent clashes between government forces and defected troops in the area.

A women working at the market said this is a bad time for a recession because she is trying to earn money for her children who fled to Sudan following the fighting.

Traders attributed the problem to closure of roads between Sudan and South Sudan.

Some traders said the trade is progressing undisrupted, but also requested the reopening of border trade between the two Sudans.
