Prices of essential commodities in Pibor town in South Sudan’s Boma State have risen significantly as rains cut off the main road between Juba and Pibor, a government spokesman said.
Boma’s Information Minister Peeko Konyi told Radio Tamazuj on Monday evening that prices of goods in the state have increased recently as heavy rains cut off the road linking Pibor town to the capital Juba.
“The prices in the market are very high. A 50 Kg bag of sugar now increased to 20,000 SSPs from 12, 000 SSPs. A sack of flour and a jerrycan of oil costs 15,000 SSPs, but they were costing about 8, 000 SSPs before,” he said.
The state official pointed out that the Juba-Pibor road through which the state receives goods will remain impassable until January next year due to the rainy season.
Minister Peeko appealed to the locals to embark on agriculture in order to combat hunger.
