Prices of commodities rise in Twic East County

The commissioner of Twic East County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State has complained that prices of fuel and other consumer goods are soaring.

Commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch told Radio Tamazuj that the county headquarters Panyigoor is witnessing increasing prices of commodities at the market due to poor road conditions.

“A barrel of fuel costs 3,500 SSP, while one litre of bottled water reached 10 SSP,” said the commissioner. He pointed out that some families gave up drinking tea due to increasing price of sugar at the market.

The county official predicted the increasing prices of the commodities to continue throughout this year’s rainy season.

Last week, fishermen in the state capital Bor, located to the south of Twic County, reported to Radio Tamazuj increasing fuel prices were driving up the prices of fish at market in Bor, owing to the increased cost of transporting fresh and dried fish to market.
