Prices of clothes skyrocket for Eid in Muglad town

Shoppers in Muglad town in Sudan’s West Kordofan State of Sudan have complained that prices of commodities and clothing are soaring.

A citizen who preferred not to be named told Radio Tamazuj that the town is experiencing skyrocketing prices in the run-up to the Muslim festival of Eid Al Fitr that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Throughout the Muslim world, it is customary for people to buy new outfits for themselves and their children at this time. Local traders attribute the price rise to the unfavourable exchange rate against the US dollar, as well as “heavy taxes levied by the authorities”.

“For example, clothes of little children in the market cost SDG250 ($57)” the source explained.

Citizens speaking to Radio Tamazuj called on the government to monitor the prices in the market and reduce the taxes.

Apropos Eid Al Fitr, Blue Nile refugees have expressed their happiness with the coming of the festival, in spite of the hard humanitarian situation they endure.
