Shoppers in Muglad town in Sudan’s West Kordofan State have complained that prices of commodities, clothing and shoes for children are soaring.
Several citizens told Radio Tamazuj that the town is witnessing increasing prices in the run-up to the Muslim festival of Eid Al Fitr that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
They said families want to buy new outfits for their children and consumer commodities at this time, but the skyrocketing prices at the market is affecting them.
For their part, local traders attributed the price rise to heavy taxes levied by the authorities at checkpoints. They also confirmed that there was declining purchase power these days at the market.
