President Kiir warns local gangs against criminal activities in Aweil State

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has threatened all local criminal gangs in Aweil state to stop committing crimes, respect the rule of law or face dire consequences.

Local criminal gangs popularly known as ‘niggers’ have been accused of terrorizing civilians, committing murders, rape and theft across the state.

Kiir who was addressing a rally at Aweil State Freedom Square on Sunday threatened the local gangs to desist from criminal activities.

“I heard there is a problem of a group calling themselves niggers; they commit crimes without fear. If they want to kill you they kill you, if they want to rape a woman they do that. Please listen to me carefully, if you don’t stop from such activities and respect the law I will command that you all be killed wherever you are,” he warned. 

President Kiir was in Aweil as part of his tour to Greater Bahr el Ghazal region expected to conclude this week in Lol State.
