South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit will travel today to attend a ceremony organized by Sudan to celebrate the final signing of the peace deal.
Last week, South Sudanese warring parties signed a peace agreement, aimed at ending the devastating civil war that has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions in Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa.
Following the signing, President Kiir received an official invitation from the Sudanese government earlier in the week to attend a celebration in honour of the agreement.
Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny told Radio Tamazuj that the president will travel today.
“The president will travel today to attend the celebration. He will be back tomorrow,” he added.
The president, opposition leaders, civil society representatives and all parties involved in the peace process will attend the ceremony.
Sudan has played a mediatory role between the warring parties in the lead-up to the final signing of the agreement on 12 September 2018 in Addis Ababa.
