South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir is scheduled to visit Yei town on Monday to consolidate peace and attend centenary celebrations of the Episcopal Church in Yei River County, a spokesman for the government said.

Kiir’s visit comes in response to an invitation of church leaders, who have asked him to visit them to participate in  Monday’s 100 years celebration of the Episcopal Church in Yei town despite rampant insecurity around the area.

In a press statement, Michael  Makuei, Minister of Information and Government Spokesman, said a presidential advance team comprises of Minister of Cabinet Affairs Martin Elia Lomuro, Presidential Advisor on Economic Affairs Aggrey Tisa Sabuni and other government officials has already arrived in Yei town.

“We have already arrived ahead of the coming of the President to attend the centenary celebrations in Yei County on Monday,” said Makuei.

“This visit is very important because the President is coming to see the people of Yei and also to hear for himself from the people of Yei on what has happened in Yei and also to speak to the people of Yei on the need for peace,” he added.

The information minister called on the people of Yei to turn up in big numbers to welcome their President to Yei town.
