South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit is scheduled to visit the Sudanese capital Khartoum within two weeks, a senior official at South Sudan’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Mawien Makol, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Foreign Minister Deng Alor on Monday delivered a written message from President Kiir to his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir regarding the bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The president’s visit to Khartoum will be within the coming two weeks, we will later announce the date, but it will be within the coming two weeks,” said Makol.
According to the South Sudanese diplomat, the two leaders will also discuss any issues straining diplomatic ties between the two Sudans including accusations of harbouring Sudanese rebels.” We have the security arrangements between the two countries, and these things will also be discussed,” he said.
He further said President Kiir will discuss issues pertaining to peace in South Sudan with his Sudanese counterpart, besides the September 2012 agreements, the two countries signed in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa under the patronage of the African Union.
The deal between the two Sudans included a package of understandings related to citizens’ status, border, security and economic matters and others relating to oil and border trade.
