President Salva Kiir is scheduled to open a peace conference between the greater Tonj communities in Warrap state on Friday.

President Salva Kiir is scheduled to open a peace conference between the greater Tonj communities in Warrap state on Friday.

The goal of the conference is to discuss fighting within the community, which is driven by cattle raiding, according to a local journalist, Santino Manut, who spoke to Radio Tamazuj. Manut said the area has faced frequent instability.

The conference was supposed to begin several months ago, but was postponed because of the poor conditions of the roads during the country’s rainy season.

Delegates have already started to arrive at the conference venue. Participants are expected from across the greater Tonj area, including Tonj North, South and East.
