President Kiir says Egypt is closest “sibling” of South Sudan

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the South Sudanese capital Juba on Wednesday where he met South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the South Sudanese capital Juba on Wednesday where he met South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir. The visiting minister was accompanied by Minister of Water Resources Hossam Moghazy.

The foreign minister discussed with Kiir bilateral relations and the situation on the Africa continent.

During the meeting in Juba, President Kiir said Egypt is the closest “sibling” to South Sudan, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. Kiir also praised the humanitarian and development assistance that Egypt provides for the people of South Sudan, Daily News Egypt reported.

Shoukry said President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is keen on further deepening and developing cooperation between the two countries to achieve “luxury” for the South Sudanese people.

The officials discussed ways of further developing bilateral relations in the humanitarian, economic and developmental fields, and Egyptian support in the areas of capacity-building and training, education, health, irrigation and fisheries.

The Egyptian official is next scheduled to head to Eritrea’s Asmara, where he will meet Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.
