South Sudan President Salva Kiir has granted an offer of amnesty to two senior government officials who were detained for nearly a year for unclear reasons.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir has granted an offer of amnesty to two senior government officials who were detained for nearly a year for unclear reasons.

President Kiir announced the release of former governor of Western Bahr al Ghazal state Elias Waya and former army commander Andrea Dominic, during the National Day of Prayer in Juba today.

The move is seen as a sign of good will ahead of the National Dialogue initiative which is expected to kick off next week.
