South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday traveled to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a three-day visit.
Ateny Wek Ateny, the president’s spokesperson told the press at the Juba International Airport during Kiir’s departure that the president will hold bilateral meetings with UAE leaders to strengthen their relations and cooperation areas of mutual interest.
“His excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic of South Sudan, and the accompanying delegation has left Juba this morning (Monday) bound for Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arabs Emirates, on the invitation of his highness the crown prince of Abu Dhabi to discuss with him the previous issues they discussed three months ago when his excellency the president traveled to that country to attend the Expo 2020,” Ateny said.
He added, “They discussed a number of issues concerning developmental projects and the investments in South Sudan. So the visit today came as a follow-up to the last meetings that the president held with the crown prince of Abu Dhabi in January.”
President Kiir is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Director General of General Intelligence Bureau, Gen. Simon Yien Makuac, and several other government officials.
President Kiir visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in February 2022 to attend the Dubai Expo 2020 as well as to promote Arab investment in South Sudan.
