President Kiir appoints representatives to East African assembly

President Slava Kiir has issued a decree appointing seven members of parliament as representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly to fulfil South Sudan obligations of becoming a full member of the East African Community (EAC).

President Slava Kiir has issued a decree appointing seven members of parliament as representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly to fulfil South Sudan obligations of becoming a full member of the East African Community (EAC).

East African heads of state agreed to admit South Sudan as its sixth member state in November last year during a summit in Tanzania.

In a presidential decree read out on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Thursday, Kiir appointed seven members of parliament to represent South Sudan at the regional parliament.

The appointed seven members are:

1-      Gabriel Alaak Garang

2-      Ann Itto

3-      Dr. Gabriel Garang Aher 

4-       Gai Deng Nhial

5-      Joseph Okello

6-      Thomas Duoth

7-      Gideon Gatban Thoan
