Sudan’s President Omer Al-Bashir has asserted that the disputed area of Abyei remains a Sudanese territory, saying every Sudanese national from Abyei can apply for all the identification documents.

This comes during a meeting in Khartoum on Monday with a delegation of the Sudanese Women parliamentarians’ Caucus headed by Wafa Mekki Ali.

Reacting to the news, Bulabek Deng Kuol, Paramount Chief of the Ngok Dinka tribe, criticized Presidents Bashir’s statement.

Bulabek pointed out that President Bashir always talk about the territory Abyei without mentioning its people.

In October 2013, Ngok Dinka tribe conducted a unilateral popular referendum, in which the vast majority of people voted to join South Sudan.

However, neither Sudan nor South Sudan recognized the plebiscite so far.
