Authorities in Northeast Maban County in South Sudan’s Northern Upper Nile State have started preparing for peace celebrations in the county on Thursday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Northeast Maban County Commissioner Youssef Medan said the peace celebration in Northern Upper Nile state will be organized in Bunj town on 10 January.
He pointed out that several opposition officials will join thousands of South Sudanese in Northeast Maban to celebrate the revitalized peace agreement.
Medan added that government officials from neighbouring states will also take part in the peace ceremony.
Peace celebrations have been organized in many parts of South Sudan as a good gesture for reconciliation after the signing of the final peace deal in September last year.
The country's five-year civil war has left hundreds of thousands of people dead, four million forced from their homes and over six million people severely hungry.
