A two-day animal pre-migration conference among Hol Dinka, Lou Nuer and Gawar Nuer of greater Jonglei concluded in Duka Padiet on Wednesday with resolutions aimed at ending inter-communal feuds.
The conference was facilitated by UNMISS’ Civil Affairs Division.
30 youth representatives from the three communities, according to a document seen by Radio Tamazuj, agreed to iron out the differences that occur during pre-migration and post-migration of pastoralist communities in greater Jonglei.
The conference resolved that a pre-migration meeting among the local youth and community chiefs be conducted, peace centers, schools and markets at cross-border points be established to promote social interaction.
The youth representatives also appealed to the UN agencies to dig water reservoirs for Gawar and Lou Nuer communities.
In May 2017, the Civil Affairs Division of UNMISS organized a post-migration conference in Duk Padiet leading to the formation of a joint local court.
