Churches in Maridi County on Tuesday held prayers for peace and reconciliation to unite the community of Maridi with the Dinka community after recent conflict between cattle keepers and local youths in Maridi. The event was led by the Bishop Justin Badi Arama of the Episcopal Diocese of Maridi with the help of the county authorities.
Speaking at Freedom Square on Wednesday, the bishop said the prayers aim to reunite the two communities to live again together peacefully as before and forgive each other for what had happened in the past four months.
He further says the prayer event was the outcome of a two-day workshop held recently with the Archbishop Daniel Deng Bol and facilitators from Rwanda to speak peace to the elders, women, army, and youths of the two communities of Dinka and Maridi. He said the workshop called on the two communities to end to all the conflict in Maridi.
The function on Wednesday brought together all heads of departments, organized forces, schools and the civilians at Maridi Freedom Square to witness prayer and reconciliation between the two communities of Maridi and Dinka. The bishop in his final remarks called for forgiveness among all in Maridi and South Sudan as a whole.
