Residents of Bor town in Jonglei state have complained about electrical blackouts, decrying disruption of businesses due to power cuts.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, several residents expressed their discontent about fluctuating power supply and blackouts which they said had lasted for six days.
“Since the power cut, we had to shift to generators. But that is very expensive because 1 litre of fuel is 1,000 SSP and to run a generator for the whole day consumes a lot,” said John Peter, a computer centre manager in Bor.
Another resident, John Bol, said he walks for several hours to take his phone for charging in Bor town. He called for the resumption of the power supply.
For his part, Anyang Philip, the director of Bor Power Station, said the blackout is due to ongoing maintenance works at the plant, which he said will continue for 10 days.
He called on the Bor residents to be patient saying efficient electricity supply will resume soon.
