Pope Francis has named Bishop Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla, until now Bishop of Torit diocese, as the new metropolitan archbishop of Juba.
According to a statement released by the Vatican today, Pope Francis said he accepted the resignation of Archbishop Paulino Lukudu Loro, from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Juba.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this afternoon, Bishop Ameyu said he accepted Pope Francis’s offer to become the new metropolitan archbishop of Juba.
“I was consulted before my appointment as the metropolitan archbishop of Juba. I thank the Holy Father, Pope Francis, for appointing me as the new archbishop of the Catholic Church of Juba,” he said.
The church leader called on South Sudan leaders to stay committed to the peace process.” Peace can make us progress very fast, we really need to talk and negotiate to realize peace,” he said.
Bishop Ameyu was born in Ido area on January 10, 1964. He was ordained as a priest in April 21, 1991 in Khartoum.
His lordship Ameyu was consecrated as bishop of Torit on January 3, 2019.
