Residents of Umuora Payam in Aweil Centre County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State lack good roads, clean drinking water, health services and schools, a lawmaker said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Monica Mawien Kuol, the lawmaker representing Umuora constituency in the state assembly said lack of a bridge connecting the Payam to the county headquarters hinders the delivery of services to the population.
“There are a lot of challenges facing the area, but the first problem is the lack of a bridge. Because Umuora is located on the other side of the river, there is a big population in those five bomas. If the bridge is erected, it will help in the delivery of services. There are no water points, schools and health facilities,” she explained.
The legislator called upon the state government to provide special assistance to the area so that residents can access basic services.
Umuora Payam is located on the western bank of Aroyo River.
