Authorities in South Sudan’s Namurunyang State have voiced concerns about a failed agricultural season this year in several areas in the state.
Gebiano Peter, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that irregular rains and drought have negatively affected crop production during this year’s farming season.
“The agricultural production this year is not enough due to little rains,” said Peter.
The government official noted that the state will be at risk of hunger in the coming year if relief agencies do not provide aid assistance to citizens in the area.
Peter pointed out that his ministry and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) had carried out a survey in October which showed that the agricultural season failed in various parts of the state especially in Kapoeta East County.
