The SPLM/A-in-Opposition delegation in the ongoing South Sudanese peace talks disclosed they have responded to the proposed agenda presented by the IGAD mediators for latest round of peace negotiations.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the official spokesman of the faction led by Riek Machar, Hussein Mar Nyuot, stated they have made some slight observations on points in the proposal presented by the mediation.
He noted the proposal comprises four documents that need to be discussed during the third phase of negotiations.
The first document is about a review of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and humanitarian access. The second document was on the permanent cease fire.
According to Hussein Mar, this issue should only be finalized after an agreement on political arrangements between the two parties.
Thirdly, the proposed paper talked of the transitional arrangement such as a transitional constitution and government as well as the system of governance whether federal or decentralized, according to the rebel spokesman.
The former deputy governor further revealed the fourth proposal touched on general reconciliation and healing that will be carried out by a national government.
“The SPLM/A in Opposition for its part, has already submitted its observation points on the four document to mediators who will come up with the agenda after receiving observations also from the government delegation,” he indicated.
“What I know so far is the government delegation has not yet returned the proposal to the IGAD. I hope they do the same thing as we did,” he emphasized.
