An umbrella of South Sudan’s opposition political parties led by leader of the People’s Liberal Party (PLP), Peter Mayen Majongdit is seeking a third vice president position in the government.
The umbrella of opposition political parties is made up of eight political parties in Juba.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Addis Ababa on Wednesday, Peter Mayen said:” We reject the IGAD power sharing proposal. We as political parties, we are saying the position of the third vice president should be taken by non-armed groups.”
“The position of 3rd vice president should be given to the political parties or SPLM-FDs because we have armed groups in the top leadership like the government and the SPLM-IO group,” he added.
Majongdit argued that the presence of political parties in the presidency will normalize possible tensions between the armed groups. He pointed out that the parties demand more percentages in the transitional government.
