South Sudan’s national alliance of political parties has welcomed the peace proposal introduced by the Khartoum mediation team to end the conflict between President Kiir’s government and rebel groups.

Kornelio Kon Ngu, chairman of the national alliance group in Juba, told Radio Tamazuj from Khartoum where he attends the peace talks that his group is happy with the bridging proposal.

“The peace proposal presented by President Omar al-Bashir is good. We have received the two proposals on power sharing and security arrangements, and we are happy with it because it will end the conflict,” Kon said.

The South Sudan politician confirmed they would sign the proposed peace plan, pointing out that his group does care about power.

“Power emanates from people. We have accepted the proposal because we are in a transitional period, so I want to confirm that we have no problem with the peace proposal,” he said.

Kon, who is also the deputy minister of agriculture, urged the South Sudan parties to accept peace for the sake of the country. “If the main warring parties agree, the other parties are supposed to support the move for the sake of peace in our country. Whoever rejects peace because of power, he or she is the enemy of the people of South Sudan,” he said.

The South Sudan parties are scheduled to sign an agreement on security arrangements in Khartoum this afternoon.
