South Sudan’s national alliance of political parties in Juba said it has changed its opposition to the formation of unity government including President Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar.
“The situation is quite difficult, so we have made some changes in our positions as alliance so that we can have peace. Previously, we said President Kiir and his former deputy should be excluded from power,” Kornelio Kon, leader of the group told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday.
“We have decided to make concessions because the two leaders are armed and they should be part of the transitional period until time comes for elections,” he added.
The South Sudanese politician pointed out that the alliance in Juba proposed that the national parliament and cabinet should be expanded to allow inclusivity during the transitional period.
“We also demanded that the position of Vice President should be given to the other political parties to serve as buffer because we do not want the presidency to be dominated by the SPLM party,” Kon said.
