A three-day workshop to empower women and youth to participate in the political and electoral processes in South Sudan has just concluded in Aweil Town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
At least 30 women and youth participated in the workshop conducted by the UNMISS’ Gender Affairs Unit in collaboration with the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State ministry of gender and social development.
“I have learned that women, youth, and disabled persons have equal rights to vote for persons they want. My message to people in grassroots is that I want all of them to be involved in politics and learn more about it,” said Achol Deng Yor, one of the participants.
William Bol Akot, also a participant said, “Today, yesterday and day before yesterday we gained enough information on what should the youth and women do in the upcoming elections, and we are now ready.”
On her part, the Gender Affairs Unit Team Leader for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Aweil, Sarwa Gader said, “I am sure that their participation would be a great one, I am sure that their eyes are now opened and aware about their rights in the elections.”
