Security authorities in Kadugli have released Ibrahim al-Nur after spending more than 15 days in detention.

Arrested in Kadugli, South Kordofan on charges of collaborating with the SPLM-N, a Sudanese rebel group, Ibrahim was arrested by the fifth infantry intelligence division on the 31st March.

Multiple sources confirmed that al-Nur was released and had been charged with no criminal act for the duration of his detention.

The sources further claimed that the reason given by the security agencies for the man’s detention was a report filed by al-Amir Kafi al-Taiyar, the head of government-affiliated militias in South Kordofan.

No clear indications were made as to whether the release was in relation to President Bashir’s previous orders for the release of other political detainees in the state or simply because there was no proof of the charges against al-Nur.

Radio Tamazuj wasn’t able to reach local authorities for further comment.
